As an adult I perceive police with the same dread that I reserve for the dentist. Necessary but not meetings I look forward to. Sometimes I wonder where this disdain for law enforcers came from because as I kid, I remember having a great deal of awe and respect for police men and the work that they did. I remember them to be fair and full of justice, people who would help me out when I needed it and always be on my side so long as I obeyed the law.
When I was a kid, an unfortunate incident came upon me and a friend of mine. We were walking together, playing with a cell phone I had recently gotten, excited about all of the functions and applications it was capable of. As we passed many people, it did not occur to me that I was doing anything particularly dangerous or risky. I was from a nice city and crimes were not something I worried about when walking outside in broad daylight. However a man who was passing us suddenly grabbed the cell phone out of my hand and ran in the other direction. Both my friend and I were stunned at what had just happened and for a split second did not even realize the gravity of what just occurred. I even thought that maybe it was a friend of mine who was playing a joke on me. Luckily, there happened to be a police officer nearby who saw what just happened and had begun running after the man who had stolen my cell phone.
My friend and I ran in the same direction, panic and anxiety filling us as we sprinted after the police man. The police caught up with him, pinning him to the ground and arresting him. He promptly returned my cell phone to me and after a quick session of questions, let my friend and I on our way. As we walked off, we couldn’t stop talking about what just happened and the luck of having a police officer nearby. From this incident I gained such a deep sense of admiration and respect for law enforcement officials and police officers
